A 37-year-old Far Northeast man was arrested Saturday night and charged with ripping a “poor box” off the wall at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holmesburg, police said.

David Andrauskas, of the 9200 block of Lansford Street, was charged with theft and criminal mischief. Authorities believe he was the one who entered the church’s rectory on Sunday, Aug. 25, and took the collection box.

Video footage captured a man tearing the box, typically used to solicit donations for poor people in the community, from the wall and covering it with his jacket.

Andrauskas was arrested in May and charged with possession of drugs, according to court records. The case is still active. Court documents indicate he previously served time in prison for a burglary in Bucks County. ••
